Cape Disappointment was far from disappointing. The walk from the parking lot was half a mile and you can get right up to the lighthouse. It was really weathered just like a lighthouse should. It is now being used by the Coast Guard as an observation deck.

I think this would be a great place to whale watch in the winter, although I can bet it’s a cold, windy spot. There was another lighthouse up a separate trail in the main parking lot called North Head Lighthouse which is an active lighthouse that you can actually go up inside and look around.

The North Head lighthouse was just as weathered as the Cape Disappointment one but it had a bit more “character” in my opinion. In that same Park is the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center where you there is a nice scenic view of Cape Disappointment and the Lighthouses.

Ecola State Park, Cannon Beach, OR

This Park is on the coast, just North of Cannon Beach and the hike has some ocean views here and there until you get to the Tillamook Lighthouse. The entrance to the Park is in a neighborhood of homes so it seems a little obscure.
